Assume social responsibility
As parties involved in construction, we do not only design buildings or neighborhoods, we set up the playground on which our society will develop in the future.
Parties involved in construction bear a high level of social responsibility, which current construction practice does not live up to. Added social value is rarely taken into account in procurement. The needs of the general public, i.e. shelter, accessibility, affordable rents, participation and integration, are the first casualties of short-term profit interests. Fair working conditions and social impacts along supply chains are often considered secondary. Due to a lack of climate justice, poorer regions suffer more from environmental damage and its consequential costs than many countries in the global North.
Responsible, social construction has to focus on people and the common good. It is also about working for fair working, rental and ownership conditions, social participation and individual development without discrimination against minorities or social disadvantage. The added value created by construction measures has to not only benefit the clients, but also the users, the general public and the public space.
Let's use building projects to create more justice and add social value for the common good!
