0% of buildings in Germany are heated with fossil fuels. Energy consumption is that high that it cannot yet be met with renewable energy. The German government's goal is to reduce emissions from the constuction sector to half of the 2021 level by 2030.

This is only possible if the energy consumption of existing buildings for heating, cooling and electricity is drastically reduced nationwide through high-quality insulation measures and the replacement and adjustment of systems engineering (extent of renovation). Renewable energy sources close to buildings and waste heat have to be tapped and used for supply. The potential for this has to also be fully exploited in existing buildings: Well-insulated old buildings can be heated with heat pumps and PV systems can be integrated even in listed buildings. For the energy transition to succeed, we have to take social aspects and climate impact costs into account in all decisions. For example, existing solutions for a fairer distribution of costs and new citizen energy communities must be integrated.

That is why we call for climate-friendly, high-quality renovation (roadmaps) and expansion plans for renewable energies. The federal government, the states, the municipalities and all building owners, together with the planners, have an equal role to play here!
